CORALVILLE, Iowa (March 9, 2025) - Poorna Babu finished 2-2 in her campaign at the 2025 NCWWC Nationals this weekend in Coralville, Iowa. Her performance and perseverance were nothing short of inspiring. As the sole representative of the Texas Woman's University wrestling team, Babu's presence at Nationals was a monumental achievement, showcasing her hard work and determination as she returned to the national stage for a second time.
Babu began the tournament with an impressive 17-6 technical fall victory over Aiyana Williams. Her dominant performance in the opening match set the tone for the day. In the second round, Babu fell short against May Culyer, losing by fall.
The junior wrestler came back strong in the next round, defeating Isabella Gretzinger by a narrow 12-11 decision. In a match that showcased her tenacity and competitive spirit, Babu made the most of every opportunity to secure the win. In her fourth match on Friday, Babu faced Tiera Jimerson and was eliminated after a 10-0 technical fall loss, bringing her tournament to an end.
"Babu won some good matches," Head Coach Randi Miller said. "Now, she will take what she learned from her experiences and bring it into next season."
Babu's performance at Nationals may have marked the end of her season, but it served as a symbol of the hard work and perseverance she's put in to get there. The road to Nationals wasn't easy as Babu will look to return next season stronger and more motivated, ready to build on the progress she made this year.
