SAN JOSE, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2026) – The Texas Woman's gymnastics team closed out the meet on Sunday with a season high score on vault to end their California trip on a high note.
TWU posted a 194.875 at the San Jose State Tri Meet on Sunday night, as they competed against the Spartans and Southern Utah. SJSU earned the top score of the meet – a 195.900, and Southern Utah finished second with a 195.525.
The Pioneers highest event score of the night came on floor in the third rotation, as TWU matched their season high on the event with a 49.125.
Kyleigh Ghanbari,
Sophia Isbell and
Sophie Hernandez all tied for the event title on floor with 9.875s. Isbell's score marked a career high for the junior in the anchor spot, and it matched Hernandez's season high. In the second spot,
Bailey Bourgeois scored a 9.775 – her highest since the Pioneers season opener.
Kami Zarlengo opened the rotation with a 9.725, while
Sofia Steffan scored a season high 9.700.
Following floor, TWU kept their strong momentum rolling with a season high finish on vault of a 48.950. Scoring a carer high in the lead-off spot,
Alaina Reid tied for the event title with a 9.850. Isbell took second overall with a 9.825. Hernandez closed the meet strong with a career high 9.775. Ghanbari followed up her high score on floor with a career high on vault of a 9.750, and
Jordan Loock connected on an impressive vault finish to post a career high 9.750.
The afternoon started for the Pioneers on bars and beam, where TWU scored a 48.400 on both events.
Caroline Bowns led the way for TWU on bars with a 9.775. The senior
Brooke Ferrari posted a 9.700, while Bourgeois and Reid both hit 9.675s for TWU. On beam, Bowns finished second overall, after displaying a career high routine of a 9.825. Isbell and Steffan both displayed strong scored with 9.725s, and Ghanbari closed out the top scores for TWU with a 9.625 in her career debut on beam.
"Tonight, we were able to regroup and close the meet strong," said TWU Gymnastics Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman. "We need to carry the momentum of the last two events into our next meet at the Metroplex Challenge. "We have a great opportunity to compete close to home or at home for the next several meets now, and we need to take full advantage of it."
TWU's next meet with be just down the street in Fort Worth, Texas, as they compete in the Metroplex Challenge at the Fort Worth Convention Center. On Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m., TWU will compete in the quad meet against Arkansas, Oklahoma and Arizona.
