Hall of Fame
PURPOSE:
The Texas Woman’s University Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame was recommended to and approved by Dr. Shirley Chater, President of Texas Woman’s University, in the fall of 1992. It was established as a vehicle through which the University could recognize and honor former student- athletes, coaches, administrators, and others who have excelled as representatives of the University and who have brought honor to the athletics program. It is intended that the Hall of Fame emphasize excellence in athletics coupled with sportsmanship, character, and integrity.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
- A student-athlete must have been outstanding in one or more sports while attending TWU.
- A student-athlete must have completed a baccalaureate degree and her last year of competition at TWU must have occurred at least five years prior to being considered for selection.
- A coach, athletic administrator or support staff person must have served the University for at least five years. Such individuals must have been out of the position for a period of five years before being considered for selection.
- Teams, which have distinguished themselves through athletic performance and achievement in in competition, may be nominated as a Team of Distinction as evidenced by exceptional accomplishments at or above the conference level including advancement to regional or national competition, regional or national titles, school records, and undefeated seasons.
- The record of the nominee must be of such outstanding merit in athletics that there can be no question as to their qualification for the Hall of Fame.
- The nominee must have demonstrated good citizenship attributes after leaving TWU.
- The nominee must not have caused unfavorable publicity for the University, the community, etc. at any point in time.
- The committee has the prerogative to waive the above-specified qualifications under special circumstances.
Currently, the TWU Athletics Hall of Fame boasts 34 members.
