Last meeting of the Pioneers and Lady Buffs
ALLEN, Texas (March 3, 2017) - The defense of six seed Texas Woman's University held three seed West Texas A&M to 20 first half points, including just four in the entire second quarter, but the Pioneers let a seven-point lead fade and fell 61-53 to the Lady Buffs Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament inside Allen Event Center.
The 20 points scored in the first 20 minutes by the Lady Buffs was the best defensive half by the Pioneers this season. However, TWU struggled with the inside presence of WT being outrebounded 38-to-23 and giving up 11 offensive boards. The Pioneers connected on all 11 of their attempts from the line, an impressive feat as the team ranks second to last within the conference in free throw percentage.
Alexis Nezianya scored a game-high 16 points, Kenesha Saygo tallied 12 and Emily Spector tallied eight points, a team-high eight rebounds and tied a career-high with five steals.
