About the Pioneers
TWU fell below .500 in the LSC standings at 7-8 with a tight 84-81 loss at first place Eastern New Mexico Thursday. Kenesha Saygo propelled herself into first within the LSC scoring ranks following her 36-point outburtst at ENMU to average 18.8 points per game. She also ranks second in free throw attempts (132), third in free throws made (91), and seventh in field-goal percentage (.442). Grace Mitchell is sixth in blocked shots per game (1.1), and Alexis Nezianya ranks eighth in offensive rebounds per outing (2.3).
 
About the Mustangs
The Mustangs are seeking their first conference win on the season after nearly dethroning first place ENMU Tuesday. WNMU leads the league in free throw percentage at nearly 76-percent, and Jordan Gutierrez is second in the nation and tops in the LSC in minutes played per game (38.1), along with first in the league in free throws made (101) and second in scoring (18.1)
 
History amongst Texas Woman's and Western New Mexico
Before this season's initial meeting, the Pioneers and Mustangs had faced each other just once with TWU earning a 73-53 win during the 2009-10 season.

DENTON, Texas (Jan. 5, 2016) – Texas Woman's University produced its largest margin of victory on the season with a 75-46 victory over Western New Mexico in a game controlled early on where the Pioneers jumped out to a 17-2 lead within the first four minutes of the contest Thursday night inside Kitty Magee Arena to give TWU its fifth win in a row.
 
Kenesha Saygo scored a team-high 16 points and moved up to become TWU's sixth all-time leading scorer with 1,019 points. Grace Mitchell chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and five steals. Thirteen of the 14 Pioneers scored in the game, and the team outrebounded the Mustangs by a season-best 14 and accumulated a season-high 18 steals.

PORTALES, N.M. (Feb. 9, 2017) - Kenesha Saygo of Texas Woman's University's blistered Eastern New Mexico with a career-best 36 points the help the Pioneers erase a 19-point second half deficit to pull within one, but the Greyhounds hit nine straight free throws down to stretch to prevail over TWU, 84-81, Thursday night inside Greyhound Arena.
 
Saygo's performance ties for the highest individual scoring output in the Lone Star Conference this season. Kara Mitchell, Grace Mitchell and Alexis Nezianya each contributed nine points for the Pioneers. Nezianya also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Each team made 26 field goals and was within one three-point goal of one another, but the Pioneers misfired on 16 free throws (20-of-36) compared to a 28-of-34 showing from the league's first place team.
