LAWTON, Okla. — Volleyball capped its weekend with a bounce back victory on the road against Cameron, 3-1, moving to 1-1 in conference play.
The victory, however, did not come easily as the Pioneers dropped the match's opening set 25-21. With the Pioneers one point away from falling 2-0 against the Aggies and
Erin Jones serving, TWU reeled-off three consecutive points to take the second set 26-24, seizing the match's momentum.
"After making too many errors in the first set and through the beginning of the second," head coach
Jeff Huebner recollected. "We showed improved maturity the rest of the way. The comeback in the second set shows our talent when our focus is right."
Courtney Noel led the way once again with 15 kills for 18 points as
Trixie Oche finished with nine kills and a .261 hitting percentage and
Elizabeth Ugbaja adding 10 kills of her own.
"We had some really good performances from Liz, Courtney and Trixie today who really put pressure on the defense," Huebner said. "I was also encouraged by our improved effort on the defensive end."
As a team, the Pioneers collected a total of nine team blocks with Oche logging five block assists to lead the team.
Bailey French contributed a team-high 15 digs as
Katy Ranes logged 28 assists with
Bailey Wozniak tallying 23.
On Tuesday, the Pioneers will return to action, wrapping up a three-match road trip against DBU at 6 p.m.
