TWU RANKED NO. 3 IN FIRST NCAA SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL RANKINGS

INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 16, 2022) – In the first NCAA Division II Regional Rankings, the Texas Woman's basketball team was ranked No. 3 in the South Central Region, announced Wednesday, Feb. 16.
 
TWU (16-6, 9-2 Lone Star Conference) stands as one of three teams who only has one loss in the Lone Star Conference, including Texas A&M University – Commerce and West Texas A&M University.
 
The South Central Region includes the Lone Star Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. In this week's rankings, five schools from each conference were represented in the Top 10.
 
The top three teams came from the LSC – Texas A&M – Commerce (19-2) was voted No. 1, Lubbock Christian (21-5) came in at No. 2 and TWU was voted No. 3. The other LSC schools were West Texas A&M (16-9) at No. 6 and University of Texas – Tyler (13-6) at No. 9.
 
Against the schools voted in this week's Top 10, TWU has played five teams, marking a 3-2 record against the Top 10.
 
Outside of the LSC, TWU played Metropolitan State – Denver (17-5), from the RMAC, in their second game of the season and won in triple overtime. Within the LSC, TWU holds wins over West Texas A&M and UT – Tyler but recorded losses to Lubbock Christian and Texas A&M – Commerce.
 
Despite losing the first matchup by three points, the Pioneers will play No. 1 Texas A&M – Commerce again this season in conference action on Feb. 22.
 
Representing the RMAC in the Top 10, MSU Denver was voted the highest at No. 4, Colorado Mesa (16-4) was placed at No. 5. A pair of Colorado teams, Colorado State University – Pueblo (15-5) and Colorado School of Mines (19-3) were voted No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. Finally, Westminster (Utah) (13-7) closed the rankings at No. 10.

The Pioneers are back in action Thursday, Feb. 17 against Texas A&M International University at 5:30 p.m. in Laredo, TX.
