CANYON, Texas (March 12, 2022) – The Texas Woman's University basketball team will continue dancing tonight in the South Central Regional Semifinals.

Last night, TWU (20-8) defeated No. 5 Metropolitan State University – Denver in overtime 90-83 to claim their first NCAA Tournament win in program history. They will look to bring the madness in March tonight at 7:30 p.m. against the No. 1 seed – West Texas A&M University (24-10).

WT, who currently ranks No. 23 in the nation, defeated Colorado Mesa University in the quarterfinal round 70-64.

The Pioneers and Lady Buffs met earlier this season in Denton, Texas in a Lone Star Conference match-up. TWU won the game on Jan. 29, 61-50. Tonight, they will meet on WT's home court in Canyon, Texas.

MARCH MADNESS
  •  WE MEET AGAIN: WT is coming off a LSC Championship win after being ranked the No. 1 seed in the LSC and winning the regular season title. The Pioneers, who beat the Lady Buffs in the regular season, missed winning the regular season title, due to a lower winning percentage, because of less games played in conference. The first time the two teams met, the Pioneers held WT to scoring just eight points in the first quarter and took a 19-point lead at halftime. Although the Pioneers were outscored in the final two quarters, they won by 11 points, holding the Lady Buffs to shooting just 33.9% from the field and 27.8% from the 3-point line.
  • POST PRESSURE: WT typically plays fast-pace small ball, with flex post players. TWU's post – Ma'K'La Woods, Scout Huffman and Ashley Ingram, should be able to take advantage of the post play down low. In their last meeting, the Pioneers outscored the Lady Buffs in the paint 32-18.
  • DRIVE AND DRAW THE FOULS: In their last meeting, the Pioneers shot 16 free throws. WT only shot six. Last night against MSU-Denver, Sadie Moyer went 12-12 from the free throw line. Moyer and the Pioneers will need to attack the basket and draw fouls on Saturday night.
  • GUARD THE PERIMETER: Against Colorado Mesa, WT shot 20 3-pointers and made eight. Karley Motschenbacher and Lauren Taylor both made three 3-pointers each. The Pioneers will need to guard the perimeter and limit the shooting of Motschenbacher and Taylor to advance to Monday night's championship game.
