ITHACA, N.Y. - Seven individuals posted scores to qualify for Sunday's team final, leading the Texas Woman's University gymnastics to a team score of 194.700 and a second-place finish in Friday's preliminary round competition, advancing TWU to Saturday afternoon's national championship final at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships.
Saturday's championship round will begin at 7 p.m.
Daisy Woodring will compete on vault,
Isabel Goyco will compete both on bars and floor,
Maddie Griffith will compete on bars,
MacKenzie Kunzman and
Steelie King will compete on beam, and
Mara Johnson and
Sierra Muns will join Goyco on floor.
Opening the competition on beam, King's third-place score of 9.850 led the Pioneers, followed closely by Kunzman's 9.825.
Madeline Gose turned in a 9.775 to tie for 11th, while
Alix Pierce and
Kyla Podges rounded out the scorers with 9.700s to tie for 16th. Pierce's score represented a season-high in the event.
TWU moved to floor where Muns captured an individual event title with her 9.900, tying her season high. Goyco and Johnson both posted identical 9.825s to tie for third, while
Domi Bonzagni's 9.775 tied for 10th. Gose rounded out TWU's scorers with a 9.450.
The Pioneers then rotated to vault, where Woodring tied for first with her 9.850, while Gose tied for sixth with a 9.775. King stood alone in 10th with a 9.750, while Muns and
Beth Lazarus rounded out the scorers with matching 9.675s to tie for 19th.
The Pioneers concluded the competition on bars, where Griffith's fourth-place 9.800 paced TWU. Goyco followed in a tie for fifth with a 9.775, while Lazarus and Johnson finished in 11th and 14th respectively with a 9.700 and a 9.625.
TWU will be joined by Brown, Air Force, and Lindenwood in tomorrow's championship final.
