DENTON, Texas (Nov. 16, 2023) - The Texas Woman's soccer team, who traveled to Golden, Colo. on Wednesday afternoon, are set to face Colorado Mesa for the first round of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament on Friday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Central Time.

This will mark the second time in program history that TWU will be playing a NCAA Tournament match up. The first time was back in 2019 against Dixie State in Colorado Springs, Colo. Back in 2019, the Pioneers punched a ticket to the tournament as the fourth seed.

The Pioneers were ranked as the sixth seed on Monday's Selection Show, and they will play against the No. 3 seed Colorado Mesa, from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

No. 3 Seed

CMU (16-3-1, 8-3-1) ranked third in the South Central Regional ranking after winning the conference Championship game against the No. 1 seed Colorado School of Mines. The Mavericks claimed the 2023 RMAC Championship with a 3-0 victory.

The Mavericks recorded eight shutout games -two of them during the RMAC tournament. They have allowed 14 goals this season.

Abby Fotheringham and Sauvelyne Randel will be the players to watch for the Mavericks. They have scored five and 13 goals respectively and are ranked in multiple categories for the RMAC.

No. 6 Seed

The Pioneers, who led the Lone Star Conference for the majority of the season, finished the regular season in fourth place. They went on to play the first round of the LSC Tournament against Midwestern State.

Their tournament journey was cut short as MSU took the 2-1 lead in the second overtime period with only five seconds left on the clock.

The Pioneers recorded 11 shutout games during the regular season and are ranked second in the NCAA Division II goals against average with only six goals allowed in 18 matches.

Amanda Farris and Erica Brelove lead the Pioneers and their defensive efforts have lead the Pioneers to the successful season they have had so far. Farris, TWU's goalkeeper, has been phenomenal and give the Pioneers confidence on goal. Brelove spearheads the defensive back line of the Pioneers. She has scored three goals this season and records two game-winning goals.

MAVERICKS VS PIONEERS

This game marks the fifth time the Mavericks and the Pioneers have faced each other. They met back in 2003, 2006, 2014 and 2015.

TWU owns the overall record 3-1.

In 2015, the Mavericks visited Denton and were defeated by the Pioneers. A goal in the 61 minute gave TWU the victory over CMU.

When visiting Colorado back in 2014 and 2006, TWU came out victorious with 2-0 and 1-0 results. The only time the Pioneers have not been able to defeat the Mavericks was in their first meeting in 2003 in St. Paul, MN.

The winner of tomorrow's match will move on to face Colorado School of Mines (No. 1 seed) on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. (CT).
