BURNABY, B.C. (Nov. 4, 2023) – In their first dual of the 2023-24 season, the Texas Woman's Pioneers traveled to Simon Fraser for their first dual in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The night marked a historical event for the Pioneers, as they competed in their first RMAC dual in program history. 

Against the Red Leafs, the Pioneers recorded 10 points in the dual but fell to Simon Fraser's 34 points.

In the dual, three freshmen made their debut for the Pioneers. TWU's performance was highlighted by the first bout win of the season, courtesy of Nari Miller. Miller made history against the Red Leafs, recording the first bout win for TWU in RMAC action and first TWU pin in RMAC action. 

To start the night at the 109 weight class, Sloane Stewart won by forfeit and received five points for the Pioneers.

Then, in the 116 weight class, Adoline Soliz lost by fall. Mia Lozano debuted in the 123 weight class and lost by fall.

Chanya Tipmanee wrestled in the 130 weight class and recorded six points against her opponent before losing by fall.

Kira Phillips made her 2023 debut in the 136 weight class. She finished her bout with four points total, before falling by decision 8-3.

In the 143 weight class, Zanya Walker lost by tech fall. Poorna Babu recorded four points in her bout at 155, but lost by tech fall.

Miller wrestled at 170 and scored five points for her team, after winning her bout over Mikaela Trolland by fall.

The Pioneers will be back in action at the Simon Fraser Open today, while another group of Pioneers will be wrestling at the Maverick City Open today, hosted by Colorado Mesa.
