BILLINGS, Mont. (Nov. 5, 2023) – The Texas Woman's basketball team recently started their season with two wins over Top 15 ranked teams at the D2CCA Tipoff Classic hosted by Montana State Billings.
TWU (2-0) will play their final game of the opening weekend in Montana against University of Mary (1-1) on Sunday night.
The Pioneers will meet UMary at 6:30 p.m. CST on Sunday night.
CLASSIC INFORMATION
TIP OFF TIME
- MARAUDERS IN THE TIPOFF CLASSIC: UMary defeated No. 19 Angelo State 81-67 in their first game of the classic. Then, they lost to Montana State Billings 77-51. In their win against Angelo State, UMary exploded in the third quarter for 28 points. They were led by No. 4 Lexie Schneider with 23 points and No. 22 Megan Zander with 21 points. UMary shot 48.1% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc in the win. They scored 28 points in the paint, 16 points off turnovers, 18 bench points and 13 second chance points.
- DEFEND THE THREE: In their win over Angelo State, Umary shot 50% from the three point line, but in their loss to MSUB they shot just 23.1% and took just 13 attempts. The Pioneers will look to defend the three and limit the attempts of the Marauders.
- KEY PLAYERS: In the last two games, the Pioneers had two players score 20 or more points. Against MSUB, Scout Huffman finished with 20 points, and in the win against Minnesota State Mankato, Ashley Ingram scored 29 points. The Pioneers have scored 80 points in the paint over the past two games. Leila Patel and Jada Celsur have also scored in double digit points in the Pioneers' wins.
