PIONEERS RANKED IN TOP 10 OF NATIONAL POLLS THIS WEEK

DENTON, Texas (Dec. 5, 2023) – After starting off Lone Star Conference action 2-0 last week, the Texas Woman's basketball team moved up on both national polls.

TWU (8-1, 2-0) was ranked in the Top 10 on both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Poll and the D2CSC Top 25 Poll.

Last week, on the WBCA Top 25 Poll, the Pioneers were ranked 14th. This week, they jumped up four spots to No. 10. Colorado School of Mines (7-1) joined TWU on the WBCA Top 25 list at No. 23. They were the only other South Central Regional Representative on the list. However, Lubbock Christian (7-2), Texas A&M International (8-1) and Colorada Mesa (7-2) were all receiving votes.

On the D2CSC Top 25 Poll, TWU moved from No. 9 last week to No. 7 this week. From the South Central Region, Colorado School of Mines ranks 11th, Lubbock Christian sits at No. 20 and Colorado Mesa fell to No. 25.

Ashland (7-0), the reigning Division II National Champion, sits atop both national polls.

The Pioneers continue to hold steady at No. 1 on the D2CSC South Central Regional Poll. Colorado School of Mines ranks second, and Lubbock Christian moved up from sixth to third this week.

In LSC action this week, TWU will host Western New Mexico on Thursday, Dec. 7 and Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Dec. 9 at home.

"I am very proud of how our team started conference action this week," TWU Head Coach Beth Jillson said. "We had five players in double-digits Thursday and then Scout and Ashley had career performances on Saturday. Our team continues to step up in all situations. We are excited to be back at home this week."
