DENTON, Texas (Sept. 6, 2023) – It's finally volleyball time in Denton. After opening their 2023 season on the road last week, the Texas Woman's volleyball team will play their home opener Thursday, Sept. 7 on the first day of the Denton Volleyfest tournament.
In their opening weekend, the Pioneers went 2-2 at the Westminster Invitational. TWU will look to build upon their current two match win streak tomorrow night in Kitty Magee Arena against Ouachita Baptist.
OBU opened their season last weekend as well and went 1-3 in the Texas A&M – Kingsville Invitational.
The match against Ouachita Baptist on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. marks the opening match of the Denton Volleyfest for the Pioneers. Across Friday and Saturday, TWU will play three more matches – one on Friday and two on Saturday.

- Prior to tomorrow's match, TWU students can get game day ready by stopping by the T-Dub Tailgate, hosted by Athletics and the Student Union, in front of Hubbard Hall. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will includes giveaways, games and a lot of spirit!
READY FOR A T-DUB
- A LOOK AT THE TIGERS: The Tigers lost three straight to open the weekend at the Texas A&M – Kingsville Invitational, losing to TAMUK, New Mexico Highlands and Tiffin. Then, they closed the weekend with a 3-2 win over Colorado-State Pueblo. In the fifth set win, the Tigers won the first set, lost two, and won the final two sets. They hit .175 across the match with 47 kills. They also recorded 11 aces, eight blocks and 83 digs in the win. No. 22 Emily Adams and #9 Riley Braziel each led OBU with 10 kills.
- BACK IN TIME: The Pioneers own the all-time record against the Tigers 9-4. Most recently, TWU defeated OBU in Denton, Texas on Sept. 3, 2022 in five sets. At home against the Tigers, TWU is 7-3. They have not swept the Tigers since 2005.
- TWU LEADERS: Tori Woods currently leads the Pioneers on the season with 56 kills. Over 69 attacks, Kady Hansen holds TWU's highest hitting percentage, hitting .449, and the Pioneers highest number of blocks with 11. Grace Reynolds has set up the Pioneers' offense successfully with 88 assists on the season. With eight aces, Kiana Reed leads the Pioneers as a stellar server. Luna França tops the Pioneers leader board with 55 digs.
