ALPINE, TEXAS. (Dec. 19, 2024) – The Texas Woman's University basketball team wrapped up the holiday season with an impressive 89-54 victory over Sul Ross State on Thursday. The Pioneers dominated the paint, scoring a season-high 62 points in the paint, which contributed to their convincing win. This victory also marked their second consecutive win on the road.
TWU (11-1, 4-1) capitalized on their size advantage against the shorthanded SRSU (0-10, 0-5) team in today's matchup. All three bigs for Texas Woman's finished the game with double-digit points, and every Pioneer who played managed to score.
For the second straight game, four Pioneers achieved double-digit scoring, led by Ashley Ingram with 18 points. The team's all-around performance included 35 points coming from the bench, and they never trailed after an early tie at 6-6, showcasing their dominance in Alpine, Texas.

Ingram finished the game with a high of 18 points, shooting 8 for 11 from the field, along with five rebounds and five assists.

Scout Huffman added 13 points with an impressive shooting percentage of six for eight. She also contributed six rebounds to her performance.

Gabby Elliott had a TWU career high 13 points in just 18 minutes of play. She excelled offensively and defensively off the bench, shooting 5-9 from the field and 100% from the free throw line. Additionally, she finished with seven rebounds and a game high three blocks.

Leila Patel continued her strong performance by scoring in double figures for the fifth consecutive game, with 12 points on 5-8 shooting, including two three pointers.

Hadyn Collie also achieved a Pioneer career-high of six points, making three baskets for TWU.

The Pioneers scored a season-high 89 points and made 38 field goals during their dominant performance against Sul Ross State, which included an impressive 62 points scored in the paint.

TWU received significant production from their bench, who added 35 points by taking advantage of extended minutes and capitalizing on turnovers to convert them into points.

The game took a pivotal turn when TWU applied defensive pressure, resulting in a 21-2 run in the first quarter, which increased their lead to 27-8 with a minute remaining.

By the end of the first quarter, the Pioneers had built a commanding lead of 33-12 after scoring six additional points on three consecutive layups.

At the beginning of the second quarter, the Lobos attempted to respond by stringing together successful possessions, but the Pioneers continued to dominate inside, along with effective three point shooting.

TWU extended their lead to as much as 23 points during the second quarter (47-24) after a steal and fast-break layup by Kayla Glover, who led the team with three steals overall, contributing to a total of six for the team.

Despite being outscored by two points in the second quarter, Coach Jillson's crew entered halftime with a 19-point advantage.

The second half showcased TWU's dominance on both ends of the floor, as the Pioneers used full-court pressure defense to overwhelm Sul Ross State.

In the third quarter, the Lobos were limited to just 11 points and experienced a five-minute scoring drought, allowing the Pioneers to extend their lead to 75-41 heading into the fourth quarter.

The trend of dominance continued in the fourth quarter, with Texas Woman's extending their lead to as much as 37 points, ultimately securing a decisive victory as they head into the break.
