DALLAS, Texas (Feb. 20, 2024) - Texas Woman's STUNT made the most of their quick turnaround from their season opener loss to Dallas Baptist by securing their first win of the 2024 season.
The Pioneers competed in their first tournament of the year and finished 3-0 on the weekend at DBU.
A handful of Pioneers appeared as top scorers while competing in routines where the Pioneers scored, including Kaitlin Abanto, Jocelyn Dennie, Alicia Kenney, Laurel Jones, Jasmine Monroe, and Kailen Smalls.
On Thursday, Feb. 15, TWU started the DBU tournament against LSC opponent UT Tyler. The Pioneers went on to shut out the Patriots 14-0. Jones finished with 33 points for the Pioneers in game one, while Abanto, Kenney, and Monroe contributed 20 points.
In their second game of the tournament on Friday, TWU faced off against Central Arkansas, where the Pioneers pulled off a tough battle, 10-5. Dennie, Abanto, Jones, and Monroe scored 21 points. Smalls and Kenney added 16 points, respectively.
The Pioneers concluded the weekend on a high note and defeated Southern Nazarene 14-3, as four Pioneers finished with 28 points.
"Our goal was to get out there and hit clean routines," said Head Coach Jasmine Owens. We knew if we stayed focused and played smart, we could win in all three games. We went through many changes and adjustments in the week leading up to the tournament, but they kept focus to accomplish our goals."
TWU will hit the road and head to San Antonio, Texas, for an LSC matchup against St. Mary's on Friday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m.
