DENTON, Texas (April 22, 2024) – The Lone Star Conference honor awards were announced Monday, as Texas Woman's STUNT received multiple honor recognitions. From the athletes to the coaching staff, TWU's hard work paid off as the LSC honored six Pioneers and their coaching staff for their accomplishments in the LSC inaugural STUNT season.
Jocelyn Dennie was selected as the 2024 LSC Freshman Player of the Year and named to the All-Conference First team. Dennie is the first LSC Freshman of the Year player in TWU program history.
During her freshman season, Dennie won 123 out of 194 routines and finished with a power ranking of 322 and a JT Star score of 186 points. Dennie played and won the point in the highest number of routines for the Pioneers this season, the highest-ranked tumbler on the team.
This marked Dennie's second LSC honor this season, adding to her LSC Tumbler of the Week award in March following the TWU tournament, where she played in 64 rounds and earned 25 round wins.
Jasmine Monroe, Allison Schneider, and Kailen Smalls joined Dennie on the All-Conference First Team list, as newcomer Alicia Kenney, was named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Monroe won 117 out of 189 routines played and has a power ranking of 230 and a JT Star score of 122 points. The sophomore base was one of the Pioneers' top bases, as her skills and techniques have developed since her first season with the team.
Schneider competed alongside Monroe in nearly the same amount of routines as a Flyer and finished with 112 routine wins. She was a co-captain in just her second year with TWU. Schneider was a great example to her teammates and worked hard behind the scenes to achieve new skills.
Third-year vet, Smalls competed in 180 routines and won 114 rounds with a power ranking of 308. She was one of the Pioneers' best tumblers this season as she learned new skills and improved her technique for new routines.
Freshman tumbler Alicia Kenney finished the season with a JT ranking of 164. Kenney joined the team in the spring and hit the ground running. She worked hard on her craft to improve her stunt technique and build new skills and became one of the top tumblers for the Pioneers.
Academically for TWU, senior Co-Captain Laurel Jones was named to the All-Academic team with a calculated GPA score of 3.9 while majoring in Psychology. Jones was one of 12 finalists for the award and finished with one of the highest GPA averages in the conference. She played in 226 routines and holds a 311 power ranking.
"I'm proud of all our athletes for excelling at the academic and athletic levels," Head Coach Jasmine Owens said. "They have worked so hard and overcame many obstacles and these accolades are well deserved. This season, our athletes played more games than we ever have and earned more wins! Thank you to the Lone Star Conference for this recognition and their support of STUNT this year."
Joining the Pioneer stunters in the All-Conference honors is their coaching staff with an LSC Co-Coaching Staff of the Year award. This season, TWU STUNT was led by Head Coach Jasmine Owens, and assistants Lauren Murphy and Charisma Whitehead. Despite battling adversity throughout the season, Coach Owens and her staff finished third in the LSC Championships with an overall record of 11-8.
