DENTON, Texas (May 30, 2024) – For the first time in program history, two Texas Woman's STUNT student-athletes have been named
College STUNT Coaches Association (CSCA) All-Americans.
After concluding a year full of firsts – first conference competition, first conference recognitions, first top three conference tournament finish and most wins in a season, the Pioneers capped it off with the first time having more than one All-American honoree, as freshman
Jocelyn Dennie was named CSCA Second Team All-American and junior
Kailen Smalls earned CSCA All-American Honorable Mention honors.
"We are extremely proud of Jocelyn and Kailen's accomplishments this year," said TWU STUNT Head Coach
Jasmine Owens. "This is the first time in program history we have had a Second Team All-American, as well as our first time having two athletes get All-American honors."
Prior to this year, TWU has had one athlete per year receive All-American Honorable Mentions honor, with
Kaitlin Abanto receiving the honor in 2023 and
Lauren Murphy being named to the list in 2022.
Earning her first career All-American honor, Dennie added to her impressive freshman resume. Dennie, in her first year with the Pioneers, was named the inaugural Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year and to the First Team All-LSC. During the season, Dennie was also named the LSC Tumbler of the Week in March. Dennie won 123 out of 194 routines and finished with a power ranking of 322 and a JT Star score of 186 points. Dennie was the highest ranked tumbler for the Pioneers, playing in and winning the point in the highest number of routines during the 2024 season.
"Jocelyn has had a stellar freshman year and this accolade is well deserved," Owens said. "Her work ethic and passion for the sport is extremely evident, and I'm ecstatic to watch her grow as a veteran next year."
Junior
Kailen Smalls, who earned All-American Honorable Mention honors, was also named First Team All-LSC. In her third year with the Pioneers, she competed 180 routines and won 114 rounds. She closed the season with a 308 power ranking.
"Kailen shined this year as our most elite tumbler, pushing herself to improve on technique and becoming a reliable base and bottom layer," Owens said. "It's been amazing seeing her growth, and I'm excited to have her help lead the team during her senior year!"
To be nominated for the All-American awards, student-athletes must meet the following criteria: participate in all four quarters of competition, participate in at least 50% of games played and be a vital component to the team's success and have shown that by their routines.
