DENTON, Texas (June 24, 2024) – TWU STUNT's very own Laurel Jones was a Lone Star Conference (LSC) Scholar-Athlete award recipient after being recognized for excellence on the mat and in the classroom.

"From the moment of recruitment, Laurel has always been fully devoted to this team and University," Head Coach Jasmine Owens said. "She was always a dynamic player as an athlete and eager to step into any leadership position possible. Serving as STUNT captain & SAAC president for the past two years while maintaining her outstanding GPA shows her commitment to trying her best. This honor is truly deserved."

The LSC Scholar-Athlete Award honors student-athletes each academic year. According to the LSC, these award recipients represent outstanding accomplishments in scholarship, athletics, and leadership. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have participated in at least two years in their sport.

Thirty-two student-athletes were recognized as award winners this year.

Co-Captain for the Pioneers since TWU STUNT's inaugural year (2021-2022), Jones was also listed on the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters.

Recently, she made the All-Academic team with a calculated 3.9 GPA while majoring in Psychology. Jones finished with one of the highest GPA averages in the LSC. She played in 226 routines and held a 311 power ranking this past season.

Jones served two years as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, TWU Honors College Marketing Officer, a Pioneer Service Scholar, and was on the Student Leaders Council and the Athletics Council. 

Coach Owens added, "It's been an honor to coach her these past three years, and I'm excited to have her by my side as a graduate assistant next year!"
