DENTON, Texas (Feb. 5, 2025) - As the 2025 STUNT season approaches, the Texas Woman's University STUNT team is looking to take things to the next level. With the foundation set in previous seasons and a strong group of returners paired with talented newcomers, the team is set to compete with precision and unmatched commitment to their goals.
For senior captain Allison Schneider, the offseason was all about consistency and pushing the team toward higher-level routines.
"Our main focus this offseason has been maintaining consistency in our routines while challenging ourselves to perform higher-level routines on the mat," Schneider said. "This approach will contribute to our team's success by helping us earn more points against our competitors during tournaments."
As they continue to build on their skills, the Pioneers are driven by several key goals this season: improving their upper-level routines, defeating St. Mary's, and securing a spot at Nationals.
"A victory against St. Mary's would elevate our ranking and strengthen our case for Nationals selection," Schneider added. "With dedication, teamwork, and solid strategies, we are confident that both goals are within reach."
The offseason focus was clear for every member of the team. Anna Cheek emphasized that sharpening technique was key.
"Our main focus during the offseason was working on our technique and sharpness so we could acquire new skills," Cheek said. "This will greatly contribute to our season by ensuring we compete with not just skill but also precision."
Cheeks' team goal mirrors that of their captain: improving their routines, particularly in the upper-level categories, and gaining more experience in all facets of the game, from jumps and tumbling to partner stunts, pyramids, and tosses.
"We're focusing on getting more reps in the upper-level routines, which will help us compete at the same level as some of our biggest competitors," Cheek added. "I'm focusing on spending more time on the mat and building my confidence in all my skills."
For Brooke Speights, it's all about the details.Â
"Sharpness is a big part of STUNT, and practicing technique in the offseason helps drill it into our muscle memory," Speights said. "That sharpness is going to be key for us when we hit the mat during games."
The team's strategy remains unchanged despite the expansion of their conference, with more teams joining the Lone Star Conference this year.
"With more teams joining, it doesn't change our approach," Speights mentioned. "We have to focus on winning one game at a time and doing our best to be ready for each one of those games."
The home tournament is a special time for these athletes, and they are all eagerly anticipating the opportunity to perform in front of family, friends, and the TWU community.Â
"I'm really looking forward to our home tournament this season," Cheek said. "We get to compete against several conference teams, and it's going to be so exciting to show our family, friends, and school what STUNT is all about and how much work we've put in."
Schenider is also excited about their upcoming TWU tournament and expressed how it is always one of the highlights of the season.
Looking ahead, the Pioneers are focused and determined to make a significant impact on the national stage. With a blend of seasoned leadership, relentless work ethic, and unshakable determination, the Texas Woman's STUNT team is ready to make their mark. The road to Nationals begins now and the Pioneers are fired up to show the world what they're capable of.
"We are focused on synchronization and sharpness, which will truly make us stand out," Schneider concluded. "Our team is fully committed to achieving a higher seed placement in the Lone Star Conference Tournament and ultimately qualifying for Nationals."
