FRISCO, Texas (March 9, 2025) – The Texas Woman's Pioneers are your 2025 Lone Star Conference Tournament Champions.
The buzzer sounds. The crowd erupts. The W's go up.
No. 1 TWU (31-1, 21-1) defeated the No. 2 seed and nationally ranked Lubbock Christian (29-4, 21-1) 73-66 in overtime to claim their second straight LSC Tournament crown and third overall in program history.
In a back-and-forth contest, in which the largest lead was five in regulation, the Pioneers stayed focused, connected and locked in to the game plan to force overtime and claim the victory.
Ashley Ingram, who was named the 2025 LSC Tournament MVP, led TWU with a season high 28 points. She also grabbed six rebounds, dished out six assists, and recorded two blocks and two steals.
Scout Huffman, 2025 LSC All-Tournament Team honoree, joined Ingram with a 20-point performance. Huffman went 10-16 from the field to score 21 points. Joining Ingram and Huffman in double-digits was 2025 LSC All-Tournament honoree
Leila Patel. Patel went 5-6 from the field and 1-of-1 from the three point line to finish with 11 points, four rebounds and one block.
Ingram became the third LSC Tournament MVP in program history.
Throughout the 45 minutes of action, the score was tied seven times and the lead changed 14 times.
It marked the Pioneers second win of the season over the Lady Chaps. Following the win, TWU was named the No. 1 seed in the 2025 NCAA South Central Regional Tournament. The Pioneers will host the Regional Tournament in Kitty Magee Arena on March 14-15, 17.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Ingram, Huffman and Patel led TWU in double-digits.
- Ingram went 10-of-12 from the free throw line in the win.
- Kayla Glover kept the Pioneers poised down the stretch with timely buckets. Glover finished with seven points, six rebounds and four assists.
- Averee Kleinhans grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists in the win.
- On defense, Ingram and Kleinhans led with two steals. Ingram and Jada Celsur each recorded two blocks.
- Celsur locked out on defense in the final 16 seconds of action to keep the Lady Chaps from scoring, sending the game into overtime and igniting the momentum for TWU.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- The Pioneers shot 45.9% from the field in the win. They dominated the points in the paint, 38-16.
- As they have done all season, TWU stayed composed on defense to limit the scoring of the Lady Chaps. The Pioneers committed just nine fouls in the win. TWU also forced the Lady Chaps to turn the ball over 16 times for 21 TWU points. The Pioneers only turned the ball over nine times for just four Lady Chaps' points.
- TWU also locked down in transition, as they allowed LCU to score zero fast break points.
- The first quarter of action set the tone for the contest with back-and-forth scoring. The Pioneers struck first with the first four points of the game.
- With a one point lead, 13-12, at the 3:30 mark of the first quarter, both teams went scoreless for two minutes. After LCU took a three-point advantage, 16-13, Kleinhans would get to the free throw line to bring TWU within one heading into the second quarter, 16-15.
- Over the 10 minutes of the second quarter, both teams would score 18 points.
- At the 8:18 mark, Scout Huffman would tie the game up at 21 on a layup off the assist from Kleinhans.
- The Lady Chaps would find their largest lead of the game three times in the second quarter at five points, but each time, TWU would answer with a timely bucket to keep the pressure on.
- With 55 seconds left in the quarter, Ingram would score back-to-back buckets to send TWU into the halftime break trailing by one, 34-33.
- The third quarter would be another close affair, as each team would score 15 points. Patel opened the third quarter scoring for TWU with a layup off the assist by Huffman to put TWU ahead by one, 35-34.
- The score would be tied twice in the third quarter.
- After trailing by three, 49-46, with 1:53 to go in the quarter, Huffman answered with a mid-range jumper to bring TWU back within one, 49-48, heading into the fourth quarter of action.
- After two tied quarters, TWU would win the fourth quarter, 15-14. In the fourth quarter, the Pioneers continued to stay poised. They refused to lose the game, and it showed in their tenacious effort on every single play.
- With 1:13 left on the clock, trailing by two points, Huffman would get open in the mid-range and connect on a jumper to tie the game 61-61. With the swoosh of the net, the Pioneers faithful, who had been standing for the entirety of the fourth quarter went wild.
- Then, LCU responded with a bucket on the other to take the two-point lead again. After a TWU timeout, Glover got a good look at a layup under the basket and withstood a lot of contact. With no foul call, the Lady Chaps got the rebound and called a timeout. On the baseline inbounds play, the Pioneers went man-to-man and locked down on defense to force the Lady Chaps to commit a five-second violation and turn the ball over. The TWU faithful erupted and the momentum shifted fully to the Pioneers.
- After a TWU timeout, Ingram with a determined fire in her eyes got the ball off the inbounds at the top of the key, spun and drove to the basket with a purpose to score a layup and tie the game at 63. With 16 seconds remaining in the game, the Lady Chaps inbounded the ball on their half of the court. Maci Maddox, who finished with 26 in the game, was guarded by Celsur. Celsur went one-on-one with Maddox in those final seconds and locked down on defense. Maddox took an off-balance baseline jumper and the game went into overtime.
- In the Pioneers first overtime game of the season, they held the Lady Chaps to just three points in the extra period. TWU kept up their tough defense, causing LCU to commit three turnovers and a shot-clock violation to open overtime.
- TWU would score the first basket of the overtime period off a layup by Glover to take the lead, 65-63. The Pioneers would shoot 12 free throws to close the game. TWU's stifling defense throughout the contest would help wear down the Lady Chaps explosive offense and lead TWU to the victory.
- Ingram put the exclamation point on the win with two made free throws to claim the win and secure the No. 1 seed in the South Central Regional Tournament for the Pioneers.
