PHILADELPHIA (Jan. 23, 2025) – On Friday night, the Texas Woman's gymnastics competed in their first road meet of the season.
TWU traveled to Temple for a quad meet against the Owls, George Washington and Penn.
The Pioneers closed the meet with a 193.300.
They started off the night on floor with their highest event score of the night, a 48.575.
Sophia Isbell led the way for the Pioneers with a 9.850, which matched her career high set last meet.
Kyleigh Ghanbari scored a 9.825 in the third spot. In the anchor spot,
Sophie Hernandez scored a 9.675.
Kami Zarlengo opened the meet with a 9.625, and
Bailey Bourgeois scored a 9.600 to complete the scoring for the Pioneers in the first rotation.
Following floor, TWU rotated to vault. Isbell led the Pioneers in the anchor spot with her third straight 9.825 of the season, and she claimed the event title. Hernandez and Murphy both scored 9.700s for TWU. As the lead-off,
Jordan Loock started off the rotation with a 9.650. Ghanbari rounded out the top five scores for the Pioneers on vault with a 9.625. TWU posted a 48.500 on vault.
On the uneven bars, the Pioneers scored a 47.775. Bourgeois, in the lead-off spot, posted the top score for TWU with a 9.725. In the second spot, Zarlengo scored a 9.650.
Juliaunna Baker and
Brooke Ferrari closed out the top four scores with a pair of 9.625s.
TWU closed the meet on beam with a 48.450. In the last two spots, Isbell and
Ruby Goad led the Pioneers in the rotation with two 9.775s.
Sofia Steffan continued to elevate her beam scores, as she posted a career-high 9.750.
Penn claimed the win in the quad meet with a 195.075, George Washington posted a 194.350 and the host Temple scored a 193.875.
"Tonight, we did not showcase our best gymnastics," said TWU Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman. "We know we have more to bring. While we didn't compete like the team we know we can be, we will turn the page and continue to work hard in the gym, as we look ahead to our next opportunity next week."
The Pioneers head on the road for their next competition on Friday, January 30 at 9 p.m. CST.
