PORTALES, N.M. (Jan. 28, 2026) – The Texas Woman's basketball team heads on the road this week for two Lone Star Conference meetings.
No. 3 TWU (16-1, 10-0) will travel to fourth-ranked in the LSC, Eastern New Mexico (12-6, 8-2), for a match-up with the Greyhounds on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. CST. Then, on Saturday, they will face the only other undefeated team in the LSC, No. 6 West Texas A&M (18-1, 10-0), at 1 p.m. in Canyon, Texas.
Last week, the Pioneers defeated Midwestern State in KMA, 66-55.
Gabby Elliott led the Pioneers with 20 points and 17 rebounds, while
Jada Celsur and
Averee Kleinhans both added 14 points in the win. Due to weather conditions, the Thursday meeting was their lone contest of the week.
TWU is currently on a 15-game win streak, and they are a perfect 9-0 on the road.
ROAD TRIP
WINNING WAYS
- A LOOK AT THE GREYHOUNDS: ENMU most recently faced Lubbock Christian on the road and WT at home, falling in both contests. On Jan. 17, they lost to the Lady Chaps, 77-63. The Greyhounds were held to shooting 35.9% from the field, 32.3% from the three point line and 38.9% from the free throw line. They key difference offensively was the second and third quarters, where the Greyhounds were outscored by double-digits in both. ENMU also committed 16 turnovers in the loss. Then, on Jan. 22, the Greyhounds fell to WT by one point, 84-83, as a pair of last second free throws decided the contest. ENMU did commit 18 turnovers, but they dominated the rebounding battle, 43-33, and the points in the paint battle, 42-8. Chole Dallas currently leads the Greyhounds in points per game, averaging 13.1 on 60.5% from the field.
- A LOOK AT THE LADY BUFFS: WT is on an 18-game win streak. Their only loss of the season came on their first game of the season against No. 1 Grand Valley State, 73-59. Since Nov. 1, they have three wins over Top 25 teams. In their one point win over ENMU, they shot 38.1% from the field and 36% from the three point line. They did commit just 10 turnovers, and they were able to score 19 points off of 18 ENMU turnovers. Their bench also contributed 20 points in the win. Prior to the game against ENMU, the Lady Buffs defeated Midwestern State on the road, 78-65. In the win, WT grabbed 46 rebounds and dished out 20 assists. The Lady Buffs shot 48.5% from the field and just 22.7% from the three point line. They owned the play in the paint, scoring 48 points. Additionally, WT's bench scored 33 points. They did commit 15 turnovers in the win. Kyla Kane currently leads the Lady Buffs in scoring, averaging 12.8 points per game.
- LSC COMPARISON: WT ranks No. 1 in offense in the LSC (79 points per game). ENMU ranks No. 2 in offense (74.2 points per game), and TWU ranks third, averaging 72.7 points per game. TWU is the lone team of the three to rank in the top five in defense, as the Pioneers hold their opponents to an average of 55.9 points per game. All three teams average double-digit margins of victory. WT ranks No. 1 at 19.3 points per game, TWU holds No. 2 at 16.8 points per game, and ENMU sits at No. 3 at 13.1 points per game. TWU ranks No. 1 (46%), and WT ranks No. 2 (44.6%) in team field goal percentage. The Greyhounds rank fifth, averaging 41.7%. In three pointers, ENMU ranks No. 1 in three point field goals made (7.9 per game) and second in three point field goal percentage at 33.8%. TWU and WT are tied in three point field goal percentage, as they both average 33.1%. The Pioneers hold the top spot in free throw percentage, averaging 75.3%. WT ranks third (73.6%), but ENMU sits in 16th (62.6%). The Lady Buffs top the LSC leader board in rebounds, averaging 43.6 per game, and they also out-rebound their opponents by 11.1 per game.
