DENTON, Texas (Oct. 6, 2023) – St Mary's, who is currently sitting in second place on the Lone Star Conference standings, right behind Texas Woman's, will be the next opponent for the Pioneers. The match will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park.

As they sit in first place on the LSC standings, TWU (9-1-1, 4-1) is set to face StMU (5-2-4, 4-1). Both teams are actually 4-1 on the LSC standings, but the Pioneers have a better all-season record, which positions them on top of the Rattlers.

THE BATTLE OF THE LEADERS

The Pioneers and the Rattlers have only faced each other three times in the last ten years. In San Antonio, TWU has gotten results with a 2-0 win in 2019 and a 0-0 tie in 2022. The last time StMU visited Denton, they left with the three points with a 2-0 win over the Pioneers.

The Rattlers own the overall record between these two teams 5-1-2.

The only LSC loss the Pioneers recorded this season was against Midwestern State, a match in which TWU fell 1-0.tMU defeated MSU 2-1 on Sep. 30. On the other hand, the only conference loss recorded by the Rattlers was against St. Edward's -A team the Pioneers defeated 2-0.

Both teams have impressive records that top the LSC boards. TWU leads the conference record of goals against with only two, and StMU leads in goals scored with 23.

#CLAIMINGTHETOP

The Pioneers have had a very successful season so far, and a win over St. Mary's will solidify the Pioneers at the top of the LSC, as this game marks the halfway point of their regular season conference matches.

Amanda Farris, a name that we continue to talk about, has been fundamental for the Pioneers' low goal count. The Pioneers' defensive players have also not only been great defending but also on the attacking third. Five of the goals scored by the Pioneers this season have come from defensive players.
