DENTON, Texas (April 6, 2023) – Focus. Determination. Positive Mindset. These are the core pillars for Texas Woman's gymnastics, as they look to win back-to-back National Championships.

In front of a home crowd in Kitty Magee Arena, the Pioneers will begin the journey to hoisting the trophy tonight at 7 p.m.

As the two seed, TWU will compete in the second session of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship semifinals against Southeast Missouri State, Yale and West Chester. The first session of the semifinals will feature one seed Lindenwood against Southern Connecticut State, United States Air Force Academy and Brown.

The top two overall team scores in each session will move their name on the bracket and compete for a national championship on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Individually, the Pioneers will also be aiming for one of the top five spots in each rotation to advance to the individual finals on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

EYES ON THE PRIZE
  • LOOK BACK: Last season, the Pioneers won their 12th USA Gymnastics National Championship, scoring a 196.025 on the final day. Air Force placed second, Lindenwood finished third and Brown finished fourth. While the Pioneers are coming in as the two seed, their postseason experience provides an edge for them in these championships.
  • CLOSE STRONG: To close the regular season, TWU was on a season-high trend, scoring three season-highs in a row in three of their last four regular season meets – two of those highs came in KMA. The Pioneers will look to trend upward today and solidify their place in the finals on Friday.
  • KEY CONTRIBUTORS: At the MIC Championships, the Pioneers had multiple gymnasts place in the top of three of individual events. Daisy Woodring finished second on floor with a 9.900, and third on vault with a 9.850. Alix Pierce placed second on beam with a 9.875, and Madeline Gose and Steelie King tied for third on beam. TWU also claimed seven individual All-Americans in Division II, posting the highest NQSs in their event. Woodring and Gose were named an All-Americans on vault. The Pioneers swept the bars honors, as Maddie Griffith and Brooke Ferrari were named All-Americans. Finally, Alix Pierce won the honors on floor and beam, and Woodring added floor All-American to her resume.
