TYLER, Texas (Nov. 23, 2024) – In their first Lone Star Conference game of the season, the No. 1 Texas Woman's Pioneers fell to RV/#20 UT Tyler, 60-50.
TWU (6-1, 0-1) struggled from the field and beyond the arc on Saturday, as they dropped their first game of the season to UTT (4-0, 1-0).
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Ashley Ingram led the Pioneers with 12 points and 10 rebounds, recording her third double-double of the season. She also dished out two assists.
- Leila Patel finished the game with nine points, four rebounds, one steal and three assists.
- Scout Huffman and Averee Kleinhans both scored eight points. Kleinhans added a season high seven rebounds and three assists to her stat line. Huffman finished with two rebounds and one steal. Huffman remained perfect from the free throw line, going 2-of-2 today; she is 6-of-6 on the season.
- Gionna Carr added seven points and three rebounds, and Jada Celsur closed the game with five points and two steals.
IMPACT MOMENTS
- The Pioneers shot just 34% from the field and 15% from the three point line. They grabbed a season high 18 offensive rebounds and scored 15 second chance points.
- TWU did commit 20 turnovers, which translated into 19 UTT points.
- The Pioneers outrebounded the Patriots 41-30.
- UTT shot 37% from the field, 33% from the three point line and 90.9% from the free throw line.
- It marked the lowest point total for the Pioneers on the season.
- While the Pioneers won the second and third quarters, they lost the first and fourth quarters. In the fourth quarter, TWU was outscored 20-11.
- The Pioneers cut the lead to one multiple times in the second quarter, but they were unable to string together a run to top the Patriots.
- Out of halftime, Huffman tied it up at 28 with a jumper, just 30 seconds into the third quarter. However, UTT quickly pushed their lead back up to five, 35-30.
- A three from Kleinhans would tie the score again at 37 with 1:33 on the clock in the third quarter, but the Pioneers were unable to make stops on defense. They would head into the final quarter of action trailing by one, 40-39.
- Just 15 seconds into the fourth quarter, a layup by Celsur would give TWU their first lead of the night, 41-40, but UTT would respond and go back up by four, 45-41.
- The Pioneers would then go on a four minute scoring drought.
- Back-to-back buckets by Carr would give TWU a lead again, 46-45, with 4:20 on the clock. Then, her second basket would tie it up at 48 with 3:39 remaining in the game.
- Following Carr's bucket, the Pioneers would not score again until the one minute mark. Trailing 53-50, TWU would enter the foul game and were unable to make baskets. The Pioneers would drop their first game of the season 60-50.
