DALLAS, Texas (Feb. 9, 2025) - Texas Woman's STUNT team competed in its first tournament of the year this weekend, playing three games. The Pioneers bounced back from an opening loss to the DBU Patriots with two dominant performances against newly joined Lone Star Conference foe Texas A&M-Kingsville and Southern Nazarene.
The Pioneers finished 2–1 at DBU, defeating the Javelinas and the Storm 23-0 and 14-1, respectively.
Several Pioneers were recognized as top scorers, including Team MVP and tumbling star Anna Cheek, who totaled 53 points. Sophomore Jocelyn Dennie and Junior Jasmine Monroe both concluded the tournament with 20 points.
"We had our strongest season opener to date with two out of three games won," Head Coach Jasmine Owens said. "The proudest moment was our girls competing in stunt 7 for the first time ever in program history, and half the group were first-year athletes."
On Friday, Feb. 7, TWU started the DBU tournament against the Patriots, where a slow start led to an early defeat. In their second game of the tournament on Friday, TWU faced the Javelinas, emerging victorious with a 23-0 shutout.
The Pioneers concluded the weekend on Saturday with a 14-1 win over Southern Nazarene.
"I'm excited to show everyone improvements next weekend for our next tournament," Owens added.
TWU is on the road for its second tournament in Shawnee, Okla., competing in the OBU tournament on Feb. 14-15 at the Noble Complex.
