FRISCO, Texas (March 6, 2025) – The Texas Woman's basketball team celebrated their 23rd straight win in exciting fashion.
TWU (29-1, 21-1) defeated the No. 8 seed UT Permian Basin, 69-51, on Thursday night in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals to advance to their third straight LSC Semifinals.
Behind 25 bench points and 40 points in the paint, the Pioneers claimed their second win of the season against the Falcons and second straight in postseason action, as TWU defeated UTPB in the LSC Championship Title game in 2024.
Four Pioneers finished in double-digits in the win –
Scout Huffman,
Ashley Ingram,
Averee Kleinhans and
Leila Patel.
In the win, TWU held UTPB to their second lowest point total of the season at 51. It marked the 25th game this season the Pioneers have held their opponent to 55 or less points.
The third quarter proved to be the difference maker in the game, as the Pioneers exploded in the third to score 30 points – their third time this season scoring 30 or more points in a quarter. Then, TWU closed the game by locking down on the defensive end and held the Falcons to just nine points in the quarter, marking their 28th quarter this season holding a team to less than 10 points in a quarter.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Scout Huffman led the Pioneers with 13 points on 4-of-7 from the three and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
- Ashley Ingram finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, marking her 14th double-double of the season. She added four assists and two steals to her stat line. With her two steals, Ingram officially moved into sixth all-time in program history. Additionally, Ingram's four assists moved her into third all-time in program history with 368 total assists. She now ranks in the top three all-time in points, rebounds, assists and blocks.
- Averee Kleinhans scored 12 points in the win, grabbed four rebounds and two steals and dished out three assists.
- Leila Patel finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
- Kayla Glover matched her season high in the win with eight points. She also grabbed three rebounds, dished out two assists and secured one steal.
- Jada Celsur and Caroline Glud Rasmussen both added two assists each. Celsur also lead with two blocks on the night.
- Ingram and Kleinhans both went 5-of-11 from the field in the win.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 8-0 run to start the game, after Patel ignited the run with a game-opening three pointer just 25 seconds in. Patel continued her strong first quarter. At the 2:58 mark of the first quarter, she connected on another jumper to push TWU back ahead to six, 13-7.
- TWU would close the first quarter with five straight points to close the first quarter with a seven-point lead, 18-11.
- In the second quarter, the Pioneers shot just 21.43% from the field for just 11 points. They gave up 20 points to the Falcons and scored just 11 points. UTPB would lead by as much six points in the second quarter; nevertheless, TWU would close the half on a 5-1 run to trail by just two points, 31-29, heading into the halftime break.
- Following the halftime break, TWU flipped the switch. After scoring just one point in the first half, Ingram scored nine straight points to open the third quarter, as she and the Pioneers refocused to turn the tide of the game.
- TWU would quickly find their first double-digit lead of the game at the 2:56 mark off a jumper by Kleinhans. The Pioneers would close the strong, 30-point quarter with two triples, one from Huffman and one from Celsur, to record their largest lead of the third at 17, 59-42.
- In the third quarter, the Pioneers shot 60% from the field and 40% from the three point line.
- After holding the Falcons to just 11 points in the third, TWU kept the strong defense going into the fourth quarter, as UTPB scored just nine points.
- In the fourth quarter, the Pioneers would lead by as much as 21 points with just 49 seconds left in the game, 69-48.
- The game would end with a UTPB bucket, as TWU would close the LSC Quarterfinal game with a victory 69-51.
