FRISCO, Texas (March 9, 2025) – For the third straight year, the Texas Woman's basketball team is headed to the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship game.
TWU (30-1, 21-1) defeated the five seed Angelo State (18-12, 13-9) on Saturday afternoon to advance to the title game. The Pioneers recorded their 30th win of the season, marking their second straight season with 30 or more wins.
The Saturday semifinal victory marked a wire-to-wire win for the Pioneers – their fifth wire-to-wire win of the season. TWU dished out a season high 26 assists in the win on their way to shooting 43.8% from the field.
In front of a strong showing of Pioneer faithful, the Pioneers got out to an 8-0 run to start the game and kept their foot on the gas, as they clinched the semifinal win and punched their ticket to LSC Tournament for the fifth time and third straight
season.
Ashley Ingram led TWU in the win with 22 points. Six points into her 22-point performance, Ingram officially surpassed 2,000 career points, as she became the first Pioneer in program history to eclipse 2,000 points.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- To her 22 points, Ingram added eight rebounds, seven assists and matched her season high with four steals.
- Huffman recorded another double-digit performance, finishing the game with 14 points, six rebounds and two assists.
- Patel displayed a strong performance in the semifinal win. She scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and one steal and dished out five assists.
- Kayla Glover and Jada Celsur both finished with six points. Glover also added four rebounds in the victory.
- Ingram, 5-for-5, and Gionna Carr, 2-for-2, went perfect from the free throw line in the win.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- TWU out-rebounded the Rambelles in the win 38-32. The Pioneers dominated the assist category, 26-11.
- On the defensive end, TWU forced ASU to turn the ball over 19 times for 17 TWU points.
- In the first quarter, the Pioneers jumped out to an 8-0 run, and they would lead by as much as nine points, 11-2, after a Patel triple with 4:42 on the clock.
- With six seconds remaining in the quarter, Clesur dished a high pass to Ingram in the post in transition, and Ingram connected on the and-one opportunity to officially surpass 2,000 career points.
- TWU would enter the second quarter ahead by six, 18-12.
- The Pioneers continued to push ahead in the second, as they would outscore the Rambelles 25-14. They would start the quarter on a 4-0 run, which was ignited by back-to-back buckets by Gabby Elliott.
- With 6:07 on the clock, the Pioneers would find their first double-digit lead at 10 after a made triple by Ingram to raise the score to 30-20.
- TWU would find their largest lead of the first half at 17, after Carr got fouled at the buzzer and connected on both free throws to put the Pioneers ahead, 43-26.
- The Pioneers found their first 20-point lead of the afternoon, 51-30, with 4:01 left in the third off a layup by Kleinhans. Fouls would plaque TWU in the second half of the third, but they would stay connected and take a 17-point lead into the final quarter of action, 55-38.
- TWU would maintain their double-digit lead throughout the final quarter of action, and Huffman would put the exclamation point on the win with a made layup off the assist by Kleinhans, as TWU would claim the semifinal win, 71-58.

NEXT UP
In 2023, the Pioneers met ASU in the championship game and fell by just one point. Then, last season, TWU played UT Permian Basin in the title game and claimed the win, 70-60.
The Pioneers will meet the two seed, No. 8/11 Lubbock Christian tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the 2025 LSC Tournament Championship Title. LCU has not been in the LSC Title Game since the 2021 season.
