DENTON, Texas (April 2, 2025) – Jake Stevens has been named the Associate Head Coach of Texas Woman's Basketball.

"I want to thank Coach Jillson and Athletic Director Sandee Mott for their trust in me as we work toward our goal of a National Championship," Coach Stevens said. "I am thrilled to be part of such a talented and driven program filled with incredible players and coaches, and I am thankful to work with each of them every day. My family and I feel honored to be Pioneers."

After returning in Fall 2024, Coach Stevens helped guide the Pioneers to another historical season. In his scouting, practice planning and effective leadership, Coach Stevens led TWU to excellence and continued to promote the overall positive success of TWU Basketball.

"I am thrilled to have Jake step into the role of Associate Head Coach," said TWU Basketball Head Coach Beth Jillson. "His passion for TWU, ability to build meaningful relationships and dedication to our student-athletes' success will continue to elevate Pioneer Basketball. I am grateful to work alongside him, appreciate his leadership and look forward to the future."

During the 2024-25 season, the Pioneers claimed their third straight Lone Star Conference Regular Season Title and second straight LSC Tournament Title. They set a new record for most consecutive wins in a season with 27. They broke the program record for free throw percentage in a season, shooting 78% from the charity stripe, which broke the former record of 77.6% set last season. The Pioneers also broke the record for lowest opponent field goal percentage in season, holding teams to just 34.8% throughout the season – breaking the former record of 35.3% which was set during the 2015-16 season.

Coach Stevens assisted in coaching Ashley Ingram to two All-American honors and four All-Lone Star Conference honorees – Ingram, Scout Huffman, Leila Patel and Averee Kleinhans, who was also named the LSC Sixth Woman of the Year.

Within his role, Coach Stevens has brought fresh ideas to help continue to elevate the Pioneers. He brings a selfless approach to leadership, always looking for ways to serve and put the needs of the program and team first. Additionally, he always looks for ways to highlight the successes of the student-athletes and head coach. Coach Stevens' calm demeanor on the court helps the Pioneers stay steady and focused on their game plan and not get easily frazzled during games. He brings a wealth of analytical knowledge, which has transformed the Pioneers' on-court approach and led to their continued success this season. During games, he also oversees substitutes and does a great job coordinating lineups with a very deep Pioneer roster.

With 13 years of coaching experience at all levels of competition, Stevens has helped mentor a young support staff at TWU. His leadership and knowledge of the game has elevated the staff.  He is invaluable at recognizing needs of the team and coaching staff and fulfilling them. His selfless approach to leadership inspires others and also allows the team aspect of the coaching staff to be emphasized and to thrive.

Coach Stevens approaches coaching with the total well-being of the student-athlete at the core of everything he does. The Pioneers will continue to achieve great things because of his leadership, knowledge of the game and selfless attitude.

Prior to returning to the TWU coaching staff, Coach Stevens coached at Tarleton State and, most recently, at Abilene Christian. He formerly worked with Coach Jillson and the Pioneers from 2017-21.
