TWU RECORDS LARGEST MARGIN OF VICTORY SINCE 2010 IN WIN OVER OC

DENTON, Texas (Jan. 30, 2025) – The Texas Woman's basketball team closed out the month of January in style with a 43-point victory over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday night.
 
TWU (20-1, 13-1) dominated the 40 minutes against OC (6-12, 3-11) at home. The 43-point victory marked the largest margin of victory for the Pioneers since a 47-point victory on Dec. 14, 2010.
 
The Pioneers held the Eagles to their lowest point total of the season, 39, and lowest field goal percentage of the season, 26%.
 
It marked the fifth game this season with 80 or more points for TWU. On defense, the Pioneers held their opponent to 55 or less points in a game for the 13th straight contest.
 
Gabby Elliott led the way for TWU with a season high 14 points and 14 rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season.
 
The Pioneers are currently 13-1 in Lone Star Conference action and 7-1 in the East Division, ranking just second to UT Tyler.
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Elliott led the Pioneers with her 14-and-14 double-double. She also added one assist and a season high two steals in the win. Additionally, Elliott went a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
  • Ashley Ingram also topped the TWU leader board with 14 points. She added seven rebounds, two assists and one steal.
  • Four Pioneers finished with eight points in the victory – Gionna Carr, Ariyanna Hines, Averee Kleinhans and Jada Celsur. Carr also added three rebounds and one block to her stat line. Kleinhans finished with two boards and three assists, and Celsur added two steals to her eight points. Hines also dished out two assists.
  • Scout Huffman was strong on the boards in the win with six rebounds. She paired that with six points.
  • Four Pioneers shot perfect from the charity stripe – Ingram (8-for-8), Elliott (6-for-6), Carr (4-for-4) and Hines (2-for-2). As a team, the Pioneers shot 91.7% from the free throw line, 22-24.
 
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
  • The Pioneers' bench brought the spark the entire night, as they combined for 47 points.
  • TWU won the rebound battle, 43-32. The Pioneers grabbed eight offensive rebounds for 11 second-chance points.
  • On defense, TWU locked down and heavily limited the scoring of the Eagles. They forced OC to turn the ball over 16 times and scored 20 points off those turnovers.
  • TWU also owned the paint, outscoring OC 36-16 in the paint.
  • The Pioneers got off to a strong start with a 21-point opening quarter, as they limited the Eagles to just eight points in the first 10 minutes of action, marking the 17th time this season the Pioneers have held their opponent to less than 10 points in a quarter.
  • Hines started off the scoring for TWU with a good pull up jumper, which ignited a 10-2 run for TWU in the opening four minutes of action.
  • With two minutes left in the quarter, Kleinhans dished the ball to Ingram in the post, and Ingram connected on the and-one to put TWU ahead by double-digits, 17-10, for the first time in the game.
  • In the final minute of action, Elliott connected on two free throws and hit a turnaround jumper off the assist from Hines to close the first quarter with four straight points and take TWU into the second quarter ahead by 13, 21-8.
  • TWU followed up the first quarter with 14 points, as Hines got the scoring in the second quarter going at the 9:49 mark, 23-8.
  • The Pioneers would lead by as much as 18, 29-11, in the quarter after a made free by Ingram at the 6:44 mark.
  • Despite a scoring drought late in the quarter, TWU regrouped and closed the second quarter with a 4-2 run, including a bucket by Elliott and two free throws by Carr.
  • TWU went into halftime with a 16-point advantage, 35-19.
  • The Pioneers came out of the halftime break on heater with 31 points – their most points in a quarter this season. In the second half alone, TWU outscored the Eagles 41-18.
  • TWU started out the third quarter with a three point bucket make by Leila Patel, who ignited a 12-0 TWU run across the opening four minutes of action.
  • At the 2:12 mark, Ahrianna Morgan would give the Pioneers their first 30-point lead, 57-26, of the night with a drained three off the assist from Kleinhans. Then, just a few seconds later, Morgan returned the favor and dished the ball to Kleinhans for a corner triple, which she splashed.
  • Morgan closed the quarter for TWU with a good layup to increase the lead, 66-30, , as she finished the night with a season high five points.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Pioneers held OC to just nine points, marking the 18th time this season TWU has held their opponent to under 10 points.
  • TWU would mount a 10-0 run late in the quarter to find their first 40-point, 74-34, lead of the night. At the 4:24 mark, Carr connected on a layup to increase TWU's lead.
  • After holding the Eagles' offense to low point totals and long scoring droughts, the Pioneers were able to secure the win tonight.
  • Hadyn Collie connected on a shot to off the assist by Kayla Glover to tie the bow up on the win, 82-39.

TWU will be back in action in Kitty Magee Arena on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. against Cameron. They will wear pink in honor of Play4Kay and Breast Cancer Awareness.
