DENTON, Texas (Feb. 13, 2025) – Kitty Magee Arena is a special place to play. The Texas Woman's basketball team recorded their 11th win of the season at home tonight in their 25-point victory, 71-46, over Texas A&M International.
TWU (24-1, 17-1) has not only been undefeated in all 11 of their home games this season, but they have also won 14 straight games in KMA, dating back to the 2023-24 season.
On Thursday night, the Pioneers defeated TAMIU (5-19, 4-14) for the second time this season. TWU claimed their 18th straight win and 17th straight game of holding their opponent to 55 or less points.
Additionally, the Pioneers continue to claim big wins – tonight marked TWU's eighth win of the season by 20 or more points and 19th victory by 10 or more points.
TWU was a force on the defensive end in the win, forcing the Dustdevils to turn the ball over 20 times – the sixth time this season the Pioneers have forced 20 or more turnovers. On their side of the ball, TWU protected the rock, only committing eight turnovers, marking the fifth time this season and second straight game the Pioneers have committed less than 10 turnovers.
While they were taking care of the ball, TWU was also dishing dimes, as the Pioneers recorded 20 assists on the night – the fifth game this season with 20 or more assists. The number matched the number of assists by the Pioneers in the first meeting between TWU and TAMIU on Jan. 18, 2025.
With four regular season games remaining, TWU currently stands 17-1 in Lone Star Conference action and 11-1 in the East Division. UT Tyler currently stands atop the East Division standings at 12-0. Three teams are currently 17-1 overall in LSC action – the Pioneers, UT Tyler and Lubbock Christian.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Scout Huffman led the way with 16 points on 8-of-10 from the field. Huffman leads the Pioneers and the LSC in field goal percentage, averaging 59.8% on the season. She also added three rebounds to her stat line.
- Ashley Ingram finished in double-digits with 15 points. She boasted a diversified stat line, as she finished with four rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals. With her one block, Ingram officially moved into third all-time in blocks in TWU program history.
- Jada Celsur joined Ingram and Huffman in double-digits with 13 points, which matched her season high. She also grabbed one rebound, one steal and dished out three steals.
- Gabby Elliott topped the Pioneers' leader board in rebounds with nine.
- Averee Kleinhans led the defensive effort for TWU with three steals. She also dished out three assists and recorded seven points.
- Matching her career high, Kayla Glover led the way for the Pioneers with five assists. She also matched her season high with six rebounds.
- Four Pioneers finished with three assists – Celsur, Kleinhans, Leila Patel and Ariyanna Hines. It marked a season high for Hines.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- TWU won the rebounding battle, 35-29. They shot 46.9% from the field and 42.9% from the three point line. They scored 46 points in the paint and 24 points off of 20 TAMIU turnovers.
- The Pioneers grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and scored 17 second chance points.
- TWU's bench averages 24.4 points per game, and, tonight, they scored 31 points.
- In the opening quarter and the third quarter, the Pioneers held the Dustdevils to seven points and eight points respectively. It marked the 23rd and 24th quarters TWU has held their opponent to under 10 points. Additionally, it was the sixth straight game the Pioneers have held their opponent to at least one quarter of 10 or less points.
- The Pioneers scored their most points of a quarter in the first, as they opened the game with 21 points.
- After TAMIU opened the game with a quick seven points, the Pioneers went on a 16-0 run for the remaining seven minutes of action. Gabby Elliott closed the first quarter with a lot of TWU energy. She grabbed the offense rebound, secured the tip-in and connected on the and-one to close the quarter.
- TWU headed into the second quarter of action ahead, 21-7. Huffman continued the momentum for TWU, hitting a jumper in the opening 13 seconds of action off the assist by Hines. TWU maintained their double-digit lead throughout the entirety of the second quarter. They would lead by as much as 17 points, which came at the 6:48 mark off an Ingram layup after the assist from Patel.
- The Pioneers headed into halftime ahead by 11, 35-24.
- In the third quarter, TWU locked down on defense to only hold the Dustdevils to eight points, while the Pioneers responded with 19. Patel got the energy rolling with a three off the pass from Glover to put TWU ahead by 14, 38-24.
- TWU found their first 20-point lead of the night with 4:37 remaining in the third quarter. Huffman hit a jump shot to raise the Pioneers' lead, 46-26.
- To end the third quarter, Celsur hit a reverse layup with 13 seconds remaining in the quarter. Then, Kleinhans grabbed a steal and hit the layup to send TWU into the fourth quarter ahead by 22, 54-32.
- The Pioneers maintained their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter by scoring 17 points.
- Ingram gave TWU their first 25-point lead of the night, 65-40, after connecting on an and-one opportunity. Then, a layup by Glover at the 1:15 mark gave TWU their largest lead of the night at 27, 71-44.
- The Dustdevils ended the game with two free throws, as the Pioneers claimed the win, 71-46.
