KINGSVILLE, Texas (Jan. 16, 2025) – A road game to remember.
On Thursday night, the Texas Woman's basketball team (16-1, 9-1) defeated Texas A&M – Kingsville (10-6, 6-4), 66-48.
Ashley Ingram, who led the way for TWU with 17 points, entered the game just 10 points away from surpassing Peggy Allen McCoy for the most career points scored at TWU.
After halftime, Ingram lacked just one point to claim the record. Ingram received the ball on the block, turned and scored the basket (and got the and-one call) to officially move into No.1 on the TWU All-Time Career Points list. Ingram now has 1,791 career points and counting.
The win marked the Pioneers' tenth win in a row. In another strong defensive effort, TWU held TAMUK to under 50 points, which marked the eighth time this season the Pioneers have held their opponent to under 50 points.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- In the win, Ingram added two steals to officially record 130 career steals to officially move into No. 10 on the TWU All-Time Career Steals list. She also dished out five assists and grabbed three boards.
- Scout Huffman joined Ingram as the only other Pioneer in double-figures with 14 points. Huffman also grabbed a season high seven rebounds in the win.
- Caroline Glud Rasmussen went a perfect 2-for-2 from the three point line to add eight points in the win.
- Ariyanna Hines, Leila Patel and Kayla Glover all finished with six points.
- Hines joined Huffman as the leading rebounder for TWU with a season high seven boards.
- Four Pioneers finished perfect from the free throw line in the win: Ingram (5-for-5), Glover (2-for-2), Glud Rasmussen (2-for-2) and Averee Kleinhans (2-for-2).
PIONEERS POWER MOMENTS
- It marked the Pioneers' third wire-to-wire win of the season.
- TWU dominated the points in the paint – outscoring the Javelinas 38-20 in the painted area.
- The Pioneers owned the rebound battle, grabbing 39 total boards to TAMUK's 23. They only allowed the Javelinas to grab two offensive rebounds, while the Pioneers grabbed 11.
- On the night, TWU shot 44.6% from the field and 92.3% from the free throw line.
- In the opening quarter of action, the Pioneers held TAMUK to just six points, marking the 14th time this season TWU has held their opponent under 10 points in a quarter.
- TWU found their first double-digit lead of the game on a made jumper by Leila Patel with 2:38 remaining in the opening quarter, 13-3.
- After a short scoring drought to close the first quarter, the Pioneers responded strong in the second quarter. Leading 13-6, TWU scored 19 more points in the second quarter to take a commanding lead into the halftime break.
- TAMUK would come within three with 7:09 on the clock in the second quarter, but the Pioneers held the Javelinas scoreless for five minutes of action, as TWU quickly found their largest lead of the half at 15 twice in the final minute of action.
- A layup by Gabby Elliott off the assist by Hines would give TWU their second 15-point advantage and send them into halftime with the 32-17 lead.
- TWU followed up the second quarter with another 19-point performance.
- Scout Huffman gave TWU their largest lead of the night at 18, 49-33, with a made layup off the assist by Glud Rasmussen with 1:16 left in the quarter.
- In the final seconds of the third quarter, Averee Kleinhans connected on two free throws to put TWU back ahead by 18, 51-33.
- After TAMUK closed the third with a last second three pointer, TWU went into the final quarter of action ahead by 15, 51-36.
- The Pioneers would continue to lockdown on defense, crash the boards and play cohesive basketball to close out the fourth quarter.
- TWU's largest lead of the night came with 1:26 on the clock off a made layup by Ingram off the assist by Celsur to put the Pioneers ahead by 19, 64-45.
- Elliott would tie the bow on the game for TWU with a final buzzer beater layup to close the game in favor of TWU, 66-48.
