TEMPE, Ariz. (Feb. 7, 2025) – On Friday night, the Texas Woman's gymnastics team competed in their fifth meet of the season and climbed to new heights.
TWU competed against Arizona State in a dual meet in Desert Financial Arena, and the Pioneers scored a season high 195.225. It marked the highest score by TWU against Arizona State in program history.
In the dual meet, the Pioneers started off on the uneven bars with a statement start, scoring a season high 49.050.
Bailey Bourgeois set the tone for the lineup with a career high 9.800 in the lead-off spot.
Lainey Hunt continued the strong scoring with a season high 9.775. Then, in just her second time on bars,
Alaina Reid scored a career high 9.7500.
Kami Zarlengo ignited the TWU crowd in attendance with a 9.825, matching her career high from the 2024 season. In the fifth spot,
Brooke Ferrari stuck the landing on her dismount, and she scored a season high 9.775. Finally, in the anchor sport,
Kaitlyn Hoiland put an exclamation point on the opening rotation with a season high 9.875.
After the first rotation, TWU led the meet, 49.050 to Arizona State's 48.975.
The Pioneers moved onto vault for the second rotation and scored a 48.775. Hoiland led the vault rotation with a 9.8000, matching her season high. Then,
Sophia Isbell and
Bailey Upton both added 9.775's. Isbell matched her season high with the 9.775.
Trinity Caffey raised the energy with a 9.725, and Reid kept her strong meet performances going with a 9.700.
Following vault, TWU rotated over for a floor party, where they scored a 48.875. Isbell danced her way to the top of the leader-board with a career high 9.825. Performing her Taylor Swift inspired routine, Bourgeois matched her career high with a 9.800, marking her third straight meet of scoring a 9.800 or higher.
Sophie Hernandez scored a 9.775 in the third spot, matching her season high. Then, in the anchor spot,
Kyleigh Ghanbari hit a 9.750. Zarlengo got the floor party started, matching her season high with a 9.725.
TWU closed the meet on the balance beam with a 48.525. Hernandez brought the strong energy over from floor to led the way in the third spot with a career high 9.850. Hoiland joined Hernandez in the 9.800 club with a 9.800, scoring a season high. Two freshmen, Upton and Reid, stepped up and into the limelight with a pair of 9.700's.
Arizona State claimed the win with a 196.600.

Bailey Bourgeois, who set the tone for us from the lead-off spot in the first rotation and continued the high energy on floor to score two 9.800's on the night. Kaitlyn also had a strong night on three events with three 9.800's or higher. I am so proud of our team for competing strong on the road. We rose to the occasion tonight, and we are looking forward to our next opportunity on Feb. 14."
The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas against California and Utah State.
